3 Digital Marketing Basics That Get Results You Can Implement Today

Being found online is important for any business that wants to grow. If you have a very short sales cycle, like Shredding or Records Management Companies, it is even more important to be found when a potential prospect does their first search. 94% of B2B buyers search online before purchasing. If you don’t have a great online presence and are not on the first page, you will not be found. The business will go to your competitor, and you won’t even know you lost the sale.
If you want to have a better online presence, but don’t know where to start, here is a list of 3 Digital Marketing basics that all Information Management companies should consider implementing when looking to grow their online presence.

  1. Google and Bing Business Listing Profiles
All businesses should have a local listing profile set up on Google and Bing. Local listings help prospects and customers find your business, can increase search engine rankings and attract more customers.

One important component on your business listing (beyond your business hours and website link) is customer reviews. Having reviews from happy customers shows Google that your business is popular and will also help build credibility with those who are considering your business. If you can, try and implement a process that helps gather reviews to your page.

  2. Analyze your competitor websites
Make a list of competitor website that are ranking well on Google and do some analysis.
    • What information do they have on their page that you don’t?
    • Do they have more or less content than you?
    • Do they have other website features that you should consider adding to your page to make it more comparable?

Once you have the answers to those questions, analyze whether you should make some updates to your website pages and implement them.

  3. Building and Maintaining a Blog
If you do not have a blog on your website, consider adding one. It should have a regular cadence (weekly, bi-weekly, monthly) that you post new content. Although a blog is a big undertaking, it really is the cornerstone of being able to have your website rank well organically. Some of these reasons include:
    • Having a blog about your business topics shows Google (and your customers) that you are an authority about it. For example, if you run a paper shredding business, you need to show Google that you’re an authority on all things related to shredding services. Having one page on your site will not help you achieve this. You should have multiple pages about topics relating to your service such as: How to choose a paper shredding company? How do paper shredding services work? Or Top questions to ask about paper shredding services. This approach will help build authority over time.
    • It helps you rank for other keyword terms that are longer or more niche than your core website pages. For example, if you have a Records Management Business, your service page may use the main keyword ‘Records Management Services’. But, through your research, you realize that there is also search traffic and questions related to ‘What are Records Management Services?’ or ‘Are Records Management Services Safe?’. These can be great topics to generate additional (relevant) traffic to your website, that don’t necessarily belong on your service / sales page.
    • Fresh content helps you rank better in Google’s organic search results. If you build a website and do not edit or add new content over time, Google sees this as less relevant than a competitor website that is regularly updating their website and adding content.
